Unfortunatly downloading the free version is not possible, it gives the following:

Please clean cache re open in a new browser and try again.
I cleared the cache (I use Firefox) but the same message pops up. I tried a different browser (IE) but there also the same message. Very strange…

I must be dense here, because I’ve never used a .pat file and when I tried to open in photoshop, nothing happens.
How do I open it?
Victoria, PAT is the filetype for patternt photoshop files, depending on your ps version you have to copy it in your photoshop instllation or load it, please consult adobe documentation, is pretty easy.

Please check PAT adobe documentation on how to install PAT files. it depends on your ps version.

while the patterns are great, you could have at least named them so when you import the .pat into photoshop there was some reasonable way to find what you’re looking for.
